Welcome to Carolina Orthopedics and Sports Medicine! Our group was formed by two premier Orthopedic practices in the area, New Bern Orthopedic Associates and East Carolina Orthopedics, on September 1, 2007. Although both practices have been in the area for over 30 years in separate groups, we have practiced side by side at Craven Regional and decided we could better serve the community by joining together.
With the formation of Carolina Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Inc., we established a therapy department to complete a full range of services. We offer physical therapy, aquatic therapy and occupational therapy at our three locations and have certified Nerve Conduction testers.
- About Orthopedics
An orthopedic surgeon is a physician devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, disorders and diseases of the body's musculoskeletal system. This includes bones, ligaments, joints, muscles, nerves and tendons. Areas of specialization include; sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, shoulder and elbow, spine, hip or knee, trauma, pediatrics, or reconstructive surgery.
Most treatment is done without surgery using medication, exercise and other rehabilitative or alternative therapies. Surgical treatment is recommended if the patient does not respond to other treatments.
