How do I make an appointment?

For an appointment in our New Bern or Havelock offices, please call (252)634-2676 option 1.

For an appointment in our Jacksonville office please call (910)353-4500.

An appointment secretary will be happy to schedule the first available appointment for you.

Does Carolina Orthopedics accept my insurance?

We are preferred providers with most insurance companies including:

  • Aetna
  • BCBS
  • Cigna¬†(In-Network benefits for Physician Services only)
  • Medcost
  • Medicaid
  • Medicare
  • RR Medicare
  • Tricare
  • United Healthcare

However, to ensure that we are contracted with your specific health plan, please contact your insurance company prior to any appointments to verify eligibility and coverage.

Will Carolina Orthopedics file my insurance for me?

As a courtesy, we will bill your primary and secondary insurance companies, but patients are still responsible for full balance for services rendered.

Will I be required to pay at my appointment?

Yes. Co-pays and deductibles are required at the time of service and will be collected at check-in. If you are unable to meet your financial obligation, we will be happy to reschedule your appointment for a more financially convenient time for you.

What bills can I expect to receive after surgery?

If surgery is required, separate bills will be sent to you for each provider of service. You may receive bills from each of the following:

  • Physician
  • Surgery Center or Hospital
  • Surgical Assistant
  • Anesthesiologist
  • Pathology/Lab
  • Other providers as incurred
Does my surgery/procedure require preauthorization?

Many insurance companies require pre-authorization. Prior to any planned surgery/procedure, our Pre-authorization Department will contact your insurance company to pre-authorize your surgery/procedure. It is our policy not to schedule any worker’s compensation surgeries/procedures prior to authorization being verified.

Can I pay my bill with a credit card?

Yes. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and CareCredit.

I have just received my bill and am unable to pay the balance in full. What should I do?

Please contact our Patient Accounts Department at (252) 634-2676 option 3. A Patient Account specialist will be happy to discuss payment options.

How can I obtain a copy of my medical records?

Please click the link to download and/or print our Medical Records Release Form or come by one of our offices to fill out the form in person. Completed release forms can be left or dropped off at the front desk or mailed, ATTN: Medical Records. HIPAA regulations allow us 30 days to provide records to you but we will do our best to have the requested records to you as soon as possible.

Is there a charge for copies of medical records?

There is a charge for medical records that must be paid prior to releasing them to you. We have contracted with a company called Healthport who handles billing for and sending the records to you. If you have any questions please call our Medical Records Department at (252) 634-2676 option 4.
